More than 150 students and staff “ran with the bulls” and were splashed in color Oct. 17 during Parker School’s 16th annual George Heneghan Fun Run and Color Stampede.

Twenty children ages 11 and younger competed in a 1-kilometer race at the school’s lower campus, followed by a 5-kilometer race with more than 100 participants ages 12 and older. Runners and walkers were splashed in powdered color at four different color stations throughout the race. Participants received a white-logo T-shirt, colored sunglasses and foam bull horns to wear during the race.

“This fun event encourages those young and old to be active and have a good time,” said Nicole Vedelli, Parker School athletic director.

Established in 1999, the fun run is in memory of Hawaii architect George Heneghan, an accomplished athlete, teacher and Parker cross-country and track coach from 1992-98. The bull is Parker School’s mascot, a nod to the school’s paniolo and ranching roots.
